Nutrient Dynamics in Lake Erie Hypoxia
Principal Investigators: Thomas H. Johengen (CILER)Overview and Objectives
This research was focused on the causes and consequences of Lake Erie hypoxia and was directed towards improving our understanding of the relative contributions of pelagic versus benthic oxygen demand within the hypolimnion. Furthermore, I examined sediment nutrient fluxes under various thermal and oxygen conditions within the central basin to determine the potential release of phosphorus from the sediments under hypoxic and anoxic conditions.
