CILER Assistant Research Scientist Hongyan Zhang and a team of scientists, including NOAA-GLERL colleagues Ed Rutherford and Doran Mason, used a food-web model to predict the likely impacts of Asian carp on Lake Erie. They predicted that Asian carp could eventually account for up to 34 percent of the total fish weight in the lake, with declines in some fish species and increases in others. Their results will be used by Great Lakes resource managers to help inform decisions related to Asian carp. Their results were published in Transactions of the American Fisheries Society, December 2015. Read more here.
